      Valley Teams Perform Well at First Day of Cache/Box Invitational

        LOGAN— On a chilly Wednesday afternoon, the track and field teams of Cache Valley met for the annual Cache/Box Track Meet, held for the first time at Utah State University. Wednesday was just the first day of a two-day meet.   Mountain Crest had a wonderful afternoon, winning the girl’s sprint medley. Karlee Kartchner continued her year of athletic dominance, winning the girl’s 100-meter and long jump.         HYRUM— Thursday afternoon the Mountain Crest track & field team welcomed Bonneville to Lynn R. Miller Field for its first meet of the season. The MC girls were able to easily take care of the Lakers with a final score of 109-23.         SALT LAKE CITY— Trailing Salem Hills by five at halftime, Mountain Crest opened the second half on a 9-2 run and never looked back as the Mustangs advanced to the 4A State Semifinals with a 61-54 win over the Skyhawks.   Mountain Crest was led by Karlee Kartchner who scored 23 points despite being double and triple-teamed.         SALT LAKE CITY— Playing nearly 100 miles away from home proved no problem for Mountain Crest Monday. In the first round of the 4A State Tournament at Salt Lake Community College, the Mustangs defeated the Hillcrest Huskies, 60-35.   Senior forward Karlee Kartchner led the Mustangs, scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, while senior guard Emily Moore also contributed 14 points.         HYRUM— The Lady Stangs left everything on the floor Thursday night, but it wasn’t enough as they were beat by Bonneville 50-39.   Both teams came into the matchup competing for a region title. Mountain Crest had won three of its previous four contests, and sat at 6-2 in region play.
