LOGAN— With Region 5’s second seed up for grabs Friday, the Logan baseball team was looking to send its seniors off with a bang.   The Grizzlies did just that, as there were plenty of fireworks in a 6-5 win over Bonneville on the final day of the regular season, at the conclusion of which Logan honored its seniors.   “It’s nice to send the seniors out that way,” Logan head coach Mike Hansen said. “A positive note, it keeps you in positive mode for next week. We’ll take...

SMITHFIELD— Having no shot at making the state playoffs didn’t stop the Sky View softball team from turning in one of its best games of the season and defeating region power Bonneville, 5-2, on Senior Day.   The Lakers quickly scored with an RBI in the first inning after Alex Weaver stole second and third base, and was brought home by Andy Hancock’s ball to center field. Weaver had another RBI on a double made by McKinlee Westmoreland, leaving the Bobcats trailing 2-0 by the third inning.   Defense...

Box Elder took second place at the region tournament with a score...

Lakers Hand Logan Another Tough Loss

LOGAN— The Logan High softball team lost its fifth straight game Thursday, the latest setback coming at the hands of Bonneville, 15-1.   “The first three innings were great,” Logan head coach Staycee Flygare said. “The girls were confident at the plate and put the ball into play. We did ok. We’re not used to being in that situation, but it’s good we got ourselves in that situation.”   The Lakers took the lead on the second batter of the game after a lead-off triple, but the Grizzlies defense...

Hansen Homer Lifts Bobcats Past Lakers, 4-3

OGDEN— One day after disposing of Bonneville in five innings, the Sky View baseball team had a much harder time with the Lakers on the road. The end result was the same, however, as the Bobcats came away with a hard-fought 4-3 victory.   The Lakers sent a message early, holding the Bobcats scoreless in the opening inning, and then putting a run on the board in the bottom of the first.   Sky View remained scoreless until the bottom of top of the fourth inning, before the Bobcat...

MC Softball Suffers Tough 7-5 Loss at Bonneville

OGDEN— Despite out-hitting Bonneville Tuesday, the Mountain Crest softball team suffered a disappointing 7-5 road loss at the hands of the Lakers.   The Mustangs started off in the hole after giving up a three-run homer in the first inning, but battled back with the help of strong offense. Mountain Crest closed in on the lead after hitting two doubles in a row and scoring one run to cut into the lead.   “We had a couple innings with a couple errors,” MC head coach Mike Anderson said. “We’re...

It was miscommunication, not talking.”   With third-place...

Bobcats Bounce Back, Crush Bonneville, 11-1

SMITHFIELD— Coming off two disappointing loses – including a home loss to region bottom dweller Roy – the Sky View baseball team responded in a big way Tuesday, defeating Bonneville, 11-1, in five innings.   In the previous losses, the Bobcats had been struggling at the plate as they only managed a combined two runs in those games. The Cats took in some extra batting practice over the weekend, and the extra work clearly paid off.   “The kids took it upon themselves. Our senior leadership decided that they...
